Our Family & Traditions
We are both very close to our families. Frequently, we go to Antoine’s mother’s house for a nice home cooked meal. We live about five minutes from Jennifer’s parents house and see them several times a week to have dinner with her family, or just to spend time together. During the summer months, we spend a lot of our time at Jennifer’s parents’ house cooking on the grill, swimming in the pool, or exploring at the creek at the end of their street. Often, Antoine’s siblings join them for visits and adventures with Jennifer’s family. We feel very fortunate to have such great relationships with our families. Antoine’s siblings regularly spend the night at our house and attend family outings. We are fortunate that all of our family lives very close to one another and are able to regularly get together to spend quality time.
Every year we usually get everyone’s vacation schedule coordinated with Jennifer’s family to take a family vacation. Typically, we like to go somewhere to enjoy warmer weather. We love to do new adventurous things like white water rafting, jet skiing, and swimming with dolphins. We feel that it is very important to take one vacation a year to relax. It’s never anything too extravagant, but just the right amount of relaxation and fun! We look forward to just enjoying the company of family.
We cannot wait to share some of our family traditions and holidays with our children. This is something we look forward to the most once we become parents. Some of the fun traditions we have are going to the St. Patrick’s Day parade, coloring Easter eggs, making Christmas cookies, and having Christmas Eve dinner at Antoine’s mother’s house (including Jennifer's family). Of course we like to do fun things for the kids (Antoine’s siblings) as well, by not only including them in the things mentioned, but also by hiding the Easter baskets, taking them to "Santa's Workshop", and spending Christmas Eve at Jennifer’s aunt's house. One of Jennifer’s favorite memories from growing up is "spotting" Santa on the way home from her aunt's house every year as a child. These are just a few of the traditions that we will continue with our child. Not only will we celebrate the "fun" traditions of the holidays, but, we will also make sure our child knows the true meaning behind the holidays. We can’t wait to start our own family traditions with our little one!
Both of our families are very supportive of our adoption plans. Our parents cannot wait to become grandparents, since this will be the first grandchild on both sides! Our children are sure to be spoiled!!
